Cristiano Ronaldo donates $7.8 million to Nepal’s earthquake relief

The death toll from the devastating earthquake in Nepal four days ago passed 5,000 on Wednesday as officials conceded they had made mistakes in their initial response, leaving survivors stranded in remote villages waiting for aid and relief. Cristiano Ronaldo isn’t always the nicest guy on the field, but off it, the reigning FIFA Ballon d’Or champion is a prolific humanitarian. According to The Guardian, earlier this week the Real Madrid star donated $7.8 million to Nepal’s earthquake relief efforts.
[Ronaldo] donated £5m to the charity Save the Children to help their aid efforts in Nepal after the earthquake which killed more than 8,000 people and injured another 20,000 last month.
In addition to his donation, Ronaldo also posted a call to action for his 100 million fans on Facebook, requesting that they donate to Save the Children as well.
It’s been a week of Ronaldo charity. On Wednesday, we shared a video of Ronaldo admonishing a jeering crowd for laughing at young fan who was attempting to ask the star a question in Portuguese.
If more stories of Ronaldo’s generosity and humanity continue to surface, it’s going to become quite difficult to hold any of his dives or on-field side eye against him.
