On Tuesday, 18 October 2016, pop star Madonna raised some eyebrows by offering to perform oral sex on voters who cast their ballots for Hillary Clinton.
"If you vote for Hillary Clinton, I will give you a blow job," Madonna told the crowd at Madison Square Garden. "Ok? I'm really good. I'm not a douche and I'm not a tool. I take my time, I have a lot of eye contact and I do swallow," the Material Girl boasted.
What many viewers who didn't follow the whole story missed was that Madonna wasn't seriously making such an offer, nor did she offer her remarks at one of her own concerts. Her comment was preceded by "One more thing before I introduce this genius of comedy ..." because she was making a surprise appearance on stage just before comedian Amy Schumer's performance in New York City:
It is no secret that the pop icon is a supporter of Clinton, and this incident isn’t the first of bizarre gimmicks to pledge her support.
At the end of September, she posted a unclad selfie to Instagram, which has now been deleted. Wearing nothing but jewellery in the image, Madonna pledged her support for Clinton. She closed her caption with “unclad Voting series #1,” indicating that there may be more to come.
