Arsenal sign Manchester United striker Welbeck

Gunners add to strike force as 23-year-old England striker signs long-term deal.

Arsenal have completed the signing of England international Danny Welbeck from Manchester United for an undisclosed fee.

The 23-year-old England striker, who has signed a long-term deal, can play all across the front line and will boost the attacking options of a side who recently lost striker Olivier Giroud, their leading goalscorer last season, for four months with a broken leg.

Last season Welbeck has a chance conversion rate of 25% - on a par with Liverpool's Daniel Sturridge -  and boasts a goal every 2.2 matches when played in a central position, as opposed to his ratio of one in seven matches when played out wide.
He joined Manchester United as an eight-year-old and graduated from their academy before making 92 Barclays Premier League appearances and scoring 20 goals for the Red Devils.
During his time at Old Trafford, the Manchester-born forward helped United win the League Cup in 2009 and clinch their 13th Barclays Premier League title in the 2012/13 season.
Welbeck, who is this week familiarising himself with Arsenal's London Colney training ground while on international duty, has scored eight goals in 26 appearances for England and played at both the 2008 UEFA European Championships and the 2014 World Cup.
The former Preston North End and Sunderland loanee becomes Arsenal's fifth signing of the summer following the recruitment of fellow forward Alexis Sanchez, defenders Calum Chambers and Mathieu Debuchy and goalkeeper David Ospina. His first Barclays Premier League match as an Arsenal player will come against Manchester City at Emirates Stadium on 13 September.
