OFFICIAL LIST OF FIXTURES FOR NEW PREMIER LEAGUE SEASON 2015/16

Buhari's 'I'm too old' statement misrepresented-Presidency

The presidency has claimed, president Buhari's statement about being too old to perform was misinterpreted ..According to a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina,

On Monday evening, President Muhammadu Buhari spoke with the Nigerian community at the Nigerian Consulate in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Speaking extempore, because according to him, he wanted to “speak from the heart,” the President urged them to be good ambassadors of Nigeria, a country he went to the warfront to keep together.

Still extolling the virtues of our country, Nigeria, the President, who had served as a military governor of the then North-Eastern State at 33 years old, declared:”I wish I became Head of State when I was a governor. Now at 72, there is a limit to what I can do.”

The above comments have been reported by some newspapers to mean that the President was saying he was too old to cope with the demands of his office. Far from it.

As the saying goes, “old wines are tasty” and the President Buhari we have today is a man, like old wine, that has got tastier. At 72, yes, he can’t be called a youth, but he has in quantum the wisdom, the patience, temperance and forbearance that age brings. And all these virtues he has brought to the Presidency, to make a difference in our national life.

The President assured the Nigerian community in South Africa that his Administration will make  a positive impact on the country. And that he would do.

Insecurity as symbolized by insurgency will be brought to an end, corruption will be fought to a standstill, employment will be created for the teeming army of unemployed, the economy will be revived, and the quality of life of Nigerians will take an upward swing again. These will not come by a sudden flight, but they will happen in the life of this Administration.

At 72, the Buhari persona has not changed. He remains the simple, honest, incorruptible patriot he has always been. And because Nigerians earnestly desired change, that was why they voted for him overwhelmingly at the general elections in March, this year. All the virtues and values of the Buhari persona will be deployed into governance in the weeks and months ahead.

The Nigerian community in South Africa was enthralled as President Buhari spoke with them on Monday. In fact, leaving the venue was an effort, as they swarmed round the President, who shook hands with as many of them as he could.

They took his message well. That is the essence of good wine. It gets better with age. And it is amessage for all Nigerians, both at home and in the Diaspora.

My name is Dayo. “GTB shaaa! OK, can I just drop my number so you could call me up or just text when its ready so I don’t come twice? Please? My name is Nancy” She blinked her eyes in a funny way.

“Sure” I smiled

We exchanged numbers. What a lucky Friday....

So it was 10:00pm and I headed to the club…as usual my friends were chilling for me. My wife had called a couple of times, I just ignored it. She knows I’m never home Friday nights.

“Look at you!” I heard someone say. I raised my head and it was the ATM lady-Nancy.

“Wow, look at you too!” I was surprised to see her but I was happy I didn’t have to wait till Monday to see her again.

“Happy Friday!” She screamed because of the noise, “Wanna dance?”

I didn’t even have the chance to answer, she already pulled me to dance floor. I really suck at dancing but she helped me; she was a great dancer! I had fun! At some point we decided to go to a private area and we talked, ranging from work, business to personal life. I tried to hide my ring as much as possible, I certainly didn’t want this to end now.

“You are a really wonderful lady. You are so interesting…any guy would want to be with you all day” I said.

“I wasn’t always like this but I have learned the hard way that life is just too short to be sad” she sang

Then her phone rang…

“Hey baby! Yeah I’m at the private lounge, I’d like you to meet someone…alright boo” she talked excitedly as usual.

I was in shock until this tall handsome man walks up to her and kisses her.

“You were late. Meet Dayo; I met him this morning, he’s helping with your ATM I told you got swallowed and Dayo this is my B to the O-O,” she laughed “Meet my husband Kolade, we only come here to dance every fortnight Friday; away from work, stress and kids.”
“Wow, a pleasure” I managed to shake him
Then she stood now excitedly holding her husband’s arms.
“Why don’t we invite Dayo for Mimi’s 16th birthday tomorrow?” Her husband said
They have kids too? How long have they been married and they look like a couple just dating!
“Silly me, please come for my second daughter’s 16th tomorrow. It would be an honor” She brought out an I.V from her purse.
I began to feel so ashamed of myself…this was another guy like me, getting it....
right with one woman.

I collected the I.V and promised to be there.

“See you tomorrow! Have you had something to eat Kolade?” she talked and dragged her husband along.

They left and I kept staring at the thin air like I had seen a ghost. They come just to dance together every fortnight Fridays? Why didn’t I think of that! Temi loves to dance…she also likes long walks, she loves to talk…she loves jazz music, there’s this vivid picture I have of me putting her hand on my chest when we danced at a jazz club on our first year anniversary…I found myself typing all the things I knew Temi loved to do on my Ipad and I realized I had denied her of all…I had made her the old woman she acts.

What on earth was I doing here! I didn’t even tell my friends goodbye, I walked out of the club into my Jaguar. Temi’s call came through and I picked at first ring.

“Temi?” My heart raced

“I know you are not coming home…”

“I am, stay up so we can gist. Been a while” I decided to do everything on that list and to even add many more for the rest of my lifetime with her.

“Are you alright?” She was shocked I suppose

“And I’d like us to go for a birthday party tomorrow. I want you to meet this amazing couple”

“You sound different Dayo”

“Maybe I’m different”

Buhari May Appoint Ministers Who Are Not APC Members - John Oyegun

APC Chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun says President Buhari may appoint some individuals who are not APC members as Ministers into his government.

Oyegun said  Buhari is keen on appointing technocrats who will work with his agenda of moving Nigeria forward. Oyegun said this while speaking with journalists after a meeting in Abuja today.

"There is absolutely no dispute between the party and the president. We agreed that we shall use all manner of people: politicians, technocrats, all manner of people even if not politicians, who can deliver and who subscribe passionately to the agenda of the president to move this country forward, irrespective of where the people come from; irrespective of whether the person is a card-carrying members of the party. What is important is the qualification of the person and the ability of the person to deliver on the ideas of Mr. President. What we are interested is in the ability of the people to bring up the ideas that will help Mr. President achieve the set objectives and the ability to deliver on what the President wants. Secondly, this is an executive function and the President has the right to consult as widely as possible. This means he might pick people within the party; people outside the party. It is a prerogative the President should exercise and we cannot question that. We are quite happy about the way he is proceeding" he said

A 65-YEAR-OLD MAN ARRESTED ALONGSIDE THREE OTHERS FOR ALLEGEDLY INDULGING IN CULT ACTIVITIES

A 65-year-old, arrested alongside three others for allegedly indulging in cult  activities, has  claimed  poverty led him into selling arms. The suspect, who identified himself as Najim Bakare, said: “I  got involved in selling guns because I was poor and needed to make ends meet.”

Sunday Vanguard gathered that the police have recovered one of the guns Bakare  allegedly sold to a  cult group.

Bakare’s co-suspects, arrested for allegedly fomenting trouble in the Mobil Road area of Ajah, Lagos,  are  Adewale Odusote, TairuTairu Idris and Dare Ayetoba.

It was learned that 22-year-old Odusote, who hails from Epe, Lagos, was apprehended by the police attached to the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) after a tip-off on a robbery incident.  He was reportedly heading to deliver a gun to a robbery gang in a hideout.

The gang took the police to Bakare’s house after they were nabbed by operatives.

Apart from the double-barreled short gun, the police, according to a source, recovered one live cartridge and one jack knife from the gang.

Bakare, a father of fire, it was learnt, told the police  the gang members lied to him that they were security men and needed protection. “I sold the gun to the gang for N30,000 and used the money to meet some domestic needs”, the source quoted the suspect as saying.

“I am a blacksmith. I make hoes, cutlasses and other metal appliances. I also make guns. It is true that I sold the gun to the gang. I sell guns because I need to meet domestic  needs. I sold it to the boys for N30,000. They did not tell me they were cultists.

That was why I sold the gun to them”.

According to the second suspect, Odusote, who confessed to belong to the Aye cult,  more than 50 persons  were initiated in March 2012 when he joined.

“I dropped out of secondary school in 2012, and became an apprentice barber. It was a friend, Lukman, who introduced me to the cult. We were initiated in a bush around Epe. It was at about 9.30pm.They were beating us inside the bush. There were seven masters  who flogged us with Koboko. We also drank some hard drink. That  is all.”

Idris, 25, from Ajegunle and married with two children, said he joined the cult to protect himself from attacks, adding that his wife  knew he was a cultist.

He said, “We do not see any big deal in cults. We joined to protect our area and ourselves because hoodlums were always invading the Alaguntan area where I stayed.”

Sunday Vanguard learned that another member of the gang, identified only as Asunmo, was still at large.

Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, confirmed the arrests, adding that investigation was ongoing.

He said, “It is confirmed, and we are continuing investigation.”

The Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission, RMAFC, has reviewed the salaries of the President, Vice President, Senate President and Speaker of the House of Representatives and Speakers in the 36 states of the federation, as well as well other legislators in both the National and State Assemblies among other public officers in the country.

Based on the total package prepared by the RMAFC, President Muhammadu Buhari ‘s annual salary and allowances stand at N14, 4 million.

The break down shows that his Basic Salary is N 3,514,705 and Hardship allowance , N 1,757,350:50. Constituency N 8,786,762:50 and Leave Allowance – N351, 470.

Buhari will receive a 400 per cent increase in his salary amounting N14. 058 million, as gratuity upon a successful completion of his tenure.

The Federal Government is to provide him with all his needs including vehicles, Special Assistants, Personal Assistants, entertainment, security, utility bills,newspapers, medical bills and clothings.

The president’s estacode and Duty Tour allowance were not specified.

However, the Vice President is to receive an annual Basic Salary of N2, 064, 400; Hardship allowance- N1, 515, 786.25 and a Constituency Allowance of N7, 578, 931.25, bringing his total annual earning to N12.1million.

About 75 per cent of his annual basic salary would be paid for vehicles and their maintenance if he chooses to buy his vehicles and maintain them

.

He is to receive another 25 per cent to hire his Personal Assistants; 75 per cent for domestic staff; 45 per cent for entertainment and 30 per cent for utility.

The VP is to receive a separate 20 per cent of his salary for monitoring; 200 per cent for accommodation and 300 per cent for furniture.

His duty Tour Allowance stands at N 35 , 000 per night and an estacode of $900 per night.

He is to receive 10 per cent of his salary as Leave Allowance and 300 per cent as gratuity upon a successful completion of his tenure.

NATIONAL ASSEMBLY

Also, following a downward review of salaries and allowances of both the National and State Assembly legislators, the Senate President will receive a basic annual salary of N2, 484, 242.50 and allowance of N6. 2 million, bringing the total to N8. 69Million. His monthly salary is about   N724, 570.

In addition, he collects 250 per cent of his Annual Salary as Constituency Allowance.

However, his vehicles and their maintenance are provided by the federal government. Similarly, his domestic staff, entertainment, utilities, security responsibility, Legislative Aids, House Maintenance an, as well as a Special Adviser and a Personal Assistant are provided by the federal government.

Similarly Robe (clothing) and newspapers are provided for the Senate President.

The Deputy Senate President enjoys the same benefits except that his Annual Basic Salary stands at N 2,309,166.75, total allowance N 5,772,916.8, bringing total annual salary to 8,082,083.63 and a monthly pay of N 673,506.97

The Senate Majority Leader receives a salary of N12, 968, 960. The Minority leader receives a total annual salary of N12, 908, 168. The Whip receives N12, 867 . The same applies to Committee Chairmen. Incidentally in the last administration almost all senators were chairmen of various committees.

The allowances received by the members of the upper legislative chamber is far more than their salaries indicate.

For instance, each senator receives 75 per cent of the annual salary as allowance for a vehicle and its maintenance. They collect another 75 per cent of their salaries for domestic staff; 30 per cent for entertainment; 30 per cent for utilities; 25 per cent for robe (clothing); and 250 per cent as constituency allowance.

Others include, another allowance unspecified which stands at 53 per cent; newspapers 15 per cent; Personal Assistance, 24 per cent; and House maintenance 5 per cent.

In addition, the Leader receives 10 per cent for Responsibility; Minority Leader 7; while the Whip and Committee chairmen receive 5 per cent for the same purpose.

Ordinary senators receive a basic salary of 2,026,400.00; annual allowance of N10,739,920.00 , bring it to a total of N 12,766,320.00.

Other non-regular allowances include 300 per cent gratuity for the Senate President; and estacode of $1, 00 per night for foreign trips, as well as, a N37,000 per night duty tour allowance.

All the senators who have just finished their terms at the 7th National Assembly are therefore entitled to 300 per cent of the annual salaries as gratuity.

The Deputy senate President gets N32, 000 per night as Duty Tour Allowance.

Senators receive $ 1 000 as estacode and a duty tour allowance of N23, 000 per night.

At the House of Representatives, the Speaker receives a total annual salary of N 4,334,942.50.

Just like the Senate President, the federal government provides   his vehicles and their maintenance . His domestic staff, entertainment, utilities, security responsibility, Legislative Aids, House Maintenance an, as well as a Special Adviser and a Personal Assistant are provided by the federal government.

Similarly Robe (clothing) and newspapers are provided for the Speaker by the Federal Government.

He receives 75 per cent of his salary as constituency allowance.

The Majority Leader of the House, the Minority Leader, the Chief Whip and Chairmen of Committees receive annual salaries of N 6, 352,680.00. In addition, they receive 50 per cent of their salaries as Vehicle and Maintenance allowance; another 50 per cent for domestic staff; 10 per cent for utilities and another 10 per cent for House maintenance.

In addition, they collect 75 per cent for constituency allowance, 25 per cent for personal Assistant. Other members enjoy similar allowances.

At the House of Representatives, the speaker receives $ 790 estacode per night and N32, 000 per night for domestic trips.

The Deputy Speaker receives $750 and N30, 000 for estacode and Duty Tour, respectively. Members receive $550 and N21 , 000 for estacode and domestic trips , respectively.

Houses of Assembly

Speakers of the State Houses of Assembly enjoy all the benefits as their federal counterpart where virtually all they need are provided with public funds. However, their annual salaries stand at N 2,049,843.75 and a Constituency Allowance of N25 per cent of their Annual Salaries.

Deputy Speaker receives N 1,807,478.13 and 25 per cent of same as constituency allowance.

Members at the House of Assemblies receive annual salaries of N 2,473,866.25.

In addition, they receive 20 per cent for vehicles; 25 per cent for domestic staff, 10 per cent for utilities; 25 per cent each for robe, constituency , Personal Assistant and 5 per cent for newspapers.

The decision to review the current salaries and allowances of the nations’ public office holders received approval of many members of the public who had complained that the Nigerian law makers were about the highest paid in the world. These are the official earnings of these political office holders. But their spoils of office amount to several millions and even billions of naira in recent past.

Ilesa: The Land Of Merchants

Ilesa, the traditional capital of the Ijesa nation, is located in Osun State and strategically positioned in the heart of Ijesaland, South West, Nigeria

.

Ijesa, a dialect in Yorubaland, is used to identify the unified people known as the Ijesa’s that occupy six local government areas of Osun State namely: Ilesa West, Ilesa East, Atakumosa West, Atakumosa East, Obokun and Oriade local governments.

Ilesa: meaning ‘Ile ti a sa’ (a homeland we chose), like most Yoruba speaking towns and villages, in and outside the shore of Nigeria, has Ile-Ife as its ancestral home.

The name Ilesa, meaning ‘a homeland we chose’, shows the doggedness and resolute determination of the Ijesa people to go headlong into achieving whatever they want and ensure that they succeed.

Ilesa in history, is the capital of the first Local Council in Nigeria (Ijesa/Ekitiparapo Council), named by the British Colonial Administrator on June 21, 1900, comprising the present day Ondo and Ekiti States of Nigeria.

Historically, Ilesa was founded by Owaluse, a grandson of Ajibogun Ajaka, Owa Obokun Onida Arara, the most accomplished son of Oduduwa, the progenitor of Yoruba race

The traditional ruler of Ilesa and Ijesaland by extension is titled ‘Owa Obokun Adimula’, whiles the current Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, is Oba (Dr) Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran 11.

As attested to by Rev. Williams Howard Clark in 1854, who was claimed to have said ”for its cleanliness, regularity in breath and width, and the straightness of its streets, the ancient city far surpasses any native town I have seen in black Africa”. Ilesa is a well-planned ancient city that has link routes that no town of its size can lay claim to in Yoruba land.

The ingenuity of the founding fathers of Ilesa is obvious in the well planned layout that makes it relatively impossible for motorists to be locked up in a traffic jam because there are a lot of link routes that could be taken as alternate routes to get to one’s destination.

Ilesa, for ages, has had a lot of magnificent buildings, because the natives are known to be adventurous, industrious, hardworking and widely travelled.

In fact, there is hardly a community in Nigeria where you will not find the Ijesas and they are indeed making waves in whatever human endeavour they may choose to engage in, even outside the shores of Nigeria.

Unlike what obtains in towns in Osun State, it may interest you to know that most of the magnificent buildings in Ilesa are built from mud bricks made from God endowed clay soil.

Like earlier mentioned in reference to merchandize, the Ijesa people are versatile in commerce and are predominantly traders and farmers.

They have cut a niche for themselves as the architect of ‘Osomaalo’ meaning, ‘I will only squat to recover my money’, an appellation they derived from their subtle way of introducing their textile materials to their customers only to come around to use force to recover the debt owed them by unsuspecting customers when they failed to observe the agreed installment payment.

It has to be explained that the Ijesa trader, called Osomaalo, does not actually intend to choose to punish themselves by squatting, instead of sitting conveniently, to recover debts owed them, but the experience of those who had had their buttocks glued to seats whenever they go for such debt recovery had served as lesson to them, hence the need to squat rather than sit only to have their buttocks glued to their seats.

As a land of commerce, Ilesa is known to have large deposits of gold in commercial quantities and other minerals in considerable proportion.

Apart from being major producers of farm produce such as cocoa, kola nut, plantain, yam among numerous others, Ilesa is a major collection point for the export of Cocoa.

An Ijesa chief distinguishes himself from other chiefs in Osun State with their traditional round-neck bead as against the dangling ones used by chiefs from other parts of the state.

Traditionally, Ilesa people are known for their preference for pounded yam and egusi soup (melon mixed with vegetable) meal, the best drink is fresh palm wine while the traditional costume for men is flowing gown (agbada) over buba and soro with women wearing buba over wrapper with headgear.

Ogun, (god of iron), masquerade, ‘Uyi Arere’, festivals are traditional celebrations that attract indigenes and foreigners to Ilesa during their celebrations.

However, most outstanding of them all is the Iwude Ogun, in which the sitting Owa Obokun would visit all traditional chiefs in Ilesa with the prayer for peaceful coexistence amongst the people of the town.

It also involves visitation to notable shrines by the monarch to offer prayers to their ancestors, for peace to reign in his kingdom.

Iwude celebration has been modernized to attract tourists, involve the youths and remove the toga of idol worshiping that it was known for because the Ijesas are at the fore front of the propagation of Christianity and Islamic religion as it manifests from notable religious leaders that are Ijesas.

Prominent among such are: Ajagbemokeferi, a renowned Islamic scholar, Prophet T. Obadare of the World Soul Evangelistic Ministry, Prophet Fakeye of Cherubim and Sheraphim Church, Ayo Ni O, all of blessed memory.

Others include Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of Redeem Christian Church, Pastor W. F. Kumuyi of Deeper Life Church, Pastor S. K. Abiara, Gen. Evangelist of Christ Apostolic Church Worldwide, to mention but few.

With the modernized Iwude festival that lasted thirty days, various innovations such as beauty pageant, football match competition, traditional games competition, traditional wrestling, traditional music ministration, all introduced to add colour to the festival, youths, ijesas of diverse religion, friends of the ijesas and tourists now join in the celebration of the festival.The festival provides a rare opportunity for all and sundry to come face-to-face and exchange pleasantries with the chief celebrant of the occasion, the Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, even as they offer prayers for another year of fruitful blessing.

Apart from commerce that the Ijesas are noted for, their courage in protecting their territory was made manifest in the great Kiriji war, led by the warlord, Ogedengbe Agbogun Gboro, Atiponpon loju ogun.

However, despite the passion the Ijesas have for commerce, those who are not close to them will not know that they have a way of enjoying themselves during their leisure hours after all an adage says “all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.

They do this by listening to and dancing to music that is peculiar to them, known as Adamo music,which is a traditional Ijesa genre of music with distinct features.

Ilesa is home to the International Breweries Limited, Obafemi Awolowo Teaching Hospital Complex, Wesley Guild, the famous Ilesa Grammar School, Osun State College of Education and many cottage industries.

Apart from the Ijesas, Ilesa is home to other people across the globe because of their readiness to accommodate people that are industrious and innovative.

President Buhari Appoint New Accountant General

President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday made his first senior cadre appointment, naming Mohammed Dikwa as Nigeria’s new acting Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF).The appointment, which takes immediate effect from June 12, 2015, followed the retirement from service of Jonas Otunla.

Until his appointment, Mr. Dikwa was the Director, Funds Department in the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation.

Mr. Dikwa would hold the office until a substantive Accountant-General is appointed by the president.

Mr. Dikwa, who holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accountancy and a Masters in Business Administration and Finance, attended the Senior Executive Course 34, 2014 at the National Institute of for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru.

He was awarded Certificates in Public Finance Management Reforms, Leadership and Governance, High Performance Leadership Programme and Treasury Management at the Harvard University, USA; University of Cambridge, Oxford University in the UK, and Thames Valley University UK respectively.A professional Accountant and Member of many Professional Bodies, Mr. Dikwa is a Fellow Certified National Accountant; Fellow Charted Institute of Taxation of Nigeria, among others.

Apart from serving as a facilitator in many courses, workshops, seminars and conferences he attended both within and outside Nigeria, Mr. Dikwa served as Borno State Accountant-General and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance between1999 and 2004 and Chairman, Technical Board Bank of Industries (BOI), Bank of Agriculture (BOA).

He also served on the Board of Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Defence Industry Corporation; Distribution Company of Nigeria (DISCO), Nigerian Telecommunications Limited (NITEL), Royal Swaziland Sugar Company, etc.

He was also the Director in-charge of Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI) and later Revenue and Investment. He is happily married with children.
