A Kenyan fan who supports Liverpool was stabbed to death at
Makutano Shopping Centre in Meru town by an agitated Arsenal counterpart
after they allegedly disagreed over the outcome of Saturday's English
Premier League match played at Anfield.
Local media
report that according to Imenti North police boss Tom Odero, David
Mwangi (a boda boda operator) stabbed 25 year-old Anthony Mutethia on
the chest. The victim was pronounced dead on arrival at Meru Level Five
Hospital.
While the assailant managed to run away, his motorbike was taken to the police station by Makutano residents.
Revellers say that the two started arguing at the closing moments of the match.
It
has been gathered that Mwangi got bitter after Mutethia started mocking
him and on their way out, the argument got nasty prompting him to stab
the former.
“He was also drinking beer as the game proceeded and
because Mutethia was also a bit drunk they could not have come to terms
over their argument. This is just a game for entertainment and he should
not have got so tempered,” said a reveller, who had accompanied
Mutethia.
Police has started thoorough investigation to establish the motive of the alleged murder.
