After anxious waiting by fans of Former Chelsea boss, Jose Mourinho and those of Manchester United, ‘The Special One’ has finally confirmed his summer move to Old Trafford.
According to Daily Mail UK on Wednesday, Mourinho has confided in close friends that it is a ‘done deal’ that he will take over at Manchester United in the summer.
The top rated British tabloid had revealed at the weekend that the Portuguese was on the verge of agreeing terms to replace struggling incumbent manager Louis van Gaal.
And there had been reports in some quarters that Mourinho may have signed the contract some days back but the club is waiting for the right moment to announce it.Daily Mail UK has now confirmed that he (Mourinho) has told associates that the move to Old Trafford is done and he is set to take over at the end of the season. This come on the heels of reports on Tuesday that Tottenham Hotspurs’ manager, Mauricio Pochettino has emerged a strong contender for the job as he is also being seriously considered by the United management.
But United legend, Bryan Robson thinks Ryan Giggs is better for the job than Mourinho.
“Ryan really can be the Guardiola of United, I am sure of it,’ Robson told The Sun. ‘Yes, he’s a quiet lad but that should make no difference. He has always been a deep thinker on the game. He’s worked hard to get to this point.
“They talk about Guardiola being intelligent and having a great football brain. Ryan is no different. He just needs the chance to prove what he can do once Van Gaal goes“There should be no knee-jerk reaction, no panic. Guardiola has a great record but United should not be reacting to what happens at City. United should carry on what was started when Van Gaal arrived.
“It was always said that during Van Gaal’s time as manager Ryan would learn under him, get his pro-licence and be ready for the job. That should still be the case.
“People say Ryan hasn’t got the experience. But he watched how Sir Alex Ferguson worked for 26 years and he’s watching Van Gaal go about things now. He represents United’s soul. He has been at the club since he was 13 and knows what is expected.”
