Ivorian footballer and Galatasaray FC forward, Didier Drogba,
has purchased a 5 per cent stake of the largest mining company in Cote
d’ivoire.
The former Chelsea forward who after playing in youth teams, made his
professional debut as a footballer at the age of 18 and signed his
first professional contract at age 21, reportedly made an investment of
$74 Million to acquire part of the state’s shares in the company.
Didier Drogba had made his interest in the mining sector known as far back as March 2013.
He had however experienced difficulties in getting the deal signed and purchasing stakes at the state owned mine.
The deal was however concluded last Friday with the help of the Cote
d’Ivoire President, Alassane Ouattara and the former captain of his
national team now owns 5% of the country’s minning shares
